Although most people say “don’t mix business with pleasure,” at Jones & Hedges, we believe by doing a great job building your home, business will create friendship. With this mindset, we start each project with the goal of building a relationship through the process of completing your home – a lofty mission in our industry. We strive to work with our customers to achieve goals. By knowing our customers’ goals upfront, we are able to bring their visions to reality with a more team-focused approach. We focus on working together during the planning and building processes, keeping open communication, and delivering the vision that you have for your home. We aim to stay on schedule, within budget, and to build lasting relationships with our customers.
Jones & Hedges Custom Builders was founded in 2008 by Kyle Hedges and Josh Jones. We specialize in custom homes, renovations, additions, outdoor living spaces, kitchens and baths. With over 20 years combined experience in the Charlotte area, we are familiar with our landscape, local municipalities and construction law, and have great faith in the suppliers and sub-contractors with whom we work.
Josh was raised in Charlotte, and graduated from Providence Day School in 1996. He graduated from N.C. State University with a degree in Human Resource Management with a minor in Spanish in 2001. Josh co-founded Jones & Hedges Custom Builders in 2007.
Immediately following graduation, Josh worked for a national home builder in the Charlotte area, where he remained over the next seven years. He gained experience working in purchasing, estimating and construction project management. His experience working for a national builder taught Josh the importance of building great relationships through customer service, accurate scheduling, and working within an established budget.
Josh is a licensed General Contractor in North Carolina, and a member of the National Association of Remodelers and the Charlotte Home Builders Association.
Outside of work, Josh enjoys competing in triathlons, playing golf, mountain biking, camping and going off-road in his 1977 FJ40 Land Cruiser. He and his wife, Barb, are the proud parents of Libby and Will. Although they lost Libby at the age of 3, after a difficult battle with Leukemia in 2014, Josh works hard to keep her legacy alive. He rides each year in the 24 Hours of Booty Race and participates in pediatric cancer awareness and fundraising. In 2014, he finished first place in individual fundraising for the event.
Kyle grew up in Toledo, Ohio and graduated from The Ohio State University in 2002. His degree in Industrial Design, his natural talent for drawing and drafting, and his interest in construction, pulled Kyle towards pursuing a career in home building. He worked in Ohio and South Carolina before moving to Charlotte to work for a national home builder in 2005.
During his time working for other builders, Kyle learned about the industry, management of projects and budgets and working with customers and subcontractors. What was missing for him was the opportunity to use his artistic talents every day. Now working on custom projects and renovations, Kyle is able to incorporate his creative thinking into each project.
Outside of work, Kyle enjoys spending time at Lake Tillery with his family, and cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes. As a member of Carmel Country Club, he and his family enjoy golf, tennis and spending time together at the pool. He and his wife Abby have two boys – Hunter and Reid, and are excited about Hunter starting Kindergarten this Fall at Selwyn Elementary.
Rick grew up in Western New York and graduated from Oswego State University of New York in 2004. Rick’s degree in Elementary Education with a focus on science led him to his first position as a fifth grade teacher in Charlotte from 2004-2006.
In 2006, Rick decided to follow one of his passions and began doing high end custom trim work for a small company. In 2008, he started his own company, where he continued creating custom carpentry and trim. Josh and Kyle were so impressed with Rick’s craftsmanship, attention to detail, customer service and professionalism that they hired him in 2010 as a Project Manager.
Rick completed his North Carolina General Contractors courses in 2007.
Everyone who meets Rick, knows he loves what he does. He likes working with homeowners, and helping bring their ideas and dreams to life. He enjoys walking them through the process, whether for a custom home, complete renovation, or a single room, and seeing their excitement when their project is complete. Rick enjoys helping to put all the pieces together – working with subcontractors and homeowners from the planning stage, and providing his customers with a great experience.
Along with Rick, his two brothers and his parents transplanted from New York. He and his wife, Chelsey, have one daughter, Evie. Outside of work, Rick enjoys hiking, camping, boating, bass and trout fishing. He also runs, bikes and works out as part of F3 Nation
